D.Colabella Fine Arts Gallery represents Local Artist in SCOPE Miami

January 3, 2024 (RIDGEFIELD, CT) – D.Colabella Fine Arts has had a successful showing for local artist Charles Gulbrandsen at SCOPE Miami, which took place December 5th through December 10th. Gulbrandsen is known locally for mentoring and teaching oil painting to aspiring oil painters of all ages at RPAC Art Center and Academy. With decades of fine art experience, Gulbrandsen has also accumulated renown as a great restoration expert and has worked with many art collectors to bring old pieces and portraits back to their former condition. Perhaps one of his greatest and most recognizable projects is the mural on the ceiling of the grand central station.

“In 1913 my grandfather, Charles G. Gulbrandsen, began work, painting theceiling of Grand CentralTerminal,” said Gulbrandsen.“Then in 1945; he was chosen to leadthe repainting of the ceiling; and this celestial mural continues to inspiretravelers to this day. Following in my grandfather’s artistic footsteps, I received a fullscholarship to The Cooper Union in New York City. While at Cooper Union, I wasawarded the Vena T Carrol Prize of achievement in painting and The Bath Academyof Art Scholarship and studied abroad in England. After graduating from The Cooper Union, I began my own career in artrestoration and was fortunate enough to participate in the 1996 restoration of theGrand CentralTerminal ceiling mural, excited to connect with and preserve thework of my grandfather. During this same period, I also establishedmy own painting studio executing numerous commissions, including large-scale murals.”

Other major restorations include St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, Café Des’ Artiste, and the Daugherty Murals. However, where Gulbrandsen’s heart and passion find their full expression is with his own unique style of abstract painting, which draw on his exceptional knowledge of painting and his curiosity of science, quantum physics, and the unknown worlds of outer space and fringes of philosophy and epistemology. The mature phase of hisown painting style would surfacein pieces like “Rising” 2016 inwhich techniques both old andnew reveal a luminous nebulaeof organicstructure.Gulbrandsen has been spending the last several years developing a collection of abstract pieces that have sold around the country, and as evidenced by the success of the SCOPE Miami show, it is in no state of slowing down.

“I’m so proud to represent Charles, and his dedication to his work is truly inspirational,” said Dee DeeColabella, owner of RPAC Art Center & Academy and D.Colabella Fine Arts. “When he is painting in our studio space above 850 Degree Wood Fired Pizza in Ridgefield, he is all in. It’s fascinating to watch what over 8 hours a day of concentrated work does for an artist who is wholeheartedly dedicated to honing their craft, and to bring those final pieces to a public venue to promote and sell the end product is truly an honor.”

D.Colabella Fine Arts also represented two other exceptional and talented artists along with Guest Curator Tanya Weddemire.
