Midland, MI. – July is Disability Pride Month and Creative 360 is celebrating with art, performances, and a human library! Thursday, June 23rd there will be a Kick-off Party featuring a one night exhibition of student art inspired by famous artists with disabilities and mental health challenges. Creative 360 will also provide materials for a community art piece, that all attendees at the event can make their mark on, celebrating people of all ages and abilities.

“We love having the community come together to create,” said Artshop Coordinator, Allise Noble. “Our Express Yourself Artshop program is the perfect example of people of all abilities working together.”

The evening has performances, including: a student talent show, a performance presented by our Express Yourself Artshop community theatre acting class, and a human library. A Human Library consists of “books” that are human. Each of these “books” volunteer to take part in the “library” and share their story. Louis Thurston-Cerebral Palsy, Shana Holet – Lupus and mental health, Heather Deogracia – Bipolar Disorder, Megan Marino – Impaired Vision, and Kerry Myers – ADHD and Anxiety, will tell their stories and engage with the community to help others understand their experiences.

“It’s a fun way of showing support and learning from voices that are not always heard in the community,” said Public Relations Coordinator, Laura Brigham. “Nights like this are what community is all about.”

The Kick-off Party is Thursday, June 23 from 6:00 – 7:30. Admission to the event is Free.
