Bombara has spent much of her adulthood on the road, carving out her
own award-winning mix of vintage folk and electric roots-rock. The St. Louis based band of Samuel Gregg’s versatile guitar, John Calvin Abney’s keys, Mike Schurk’s drums and
Kit Hamon’s bass guitar is glued together with Bombara’s unforced vocals, sharp guitar hooks and
optimistic lyrics, framing life’s difficulties with positivity. For fans of Natalie Merchant, Aimee Mann, Sheryl Crowe and Bonnie Raitt, this music is a quirky indie-rock, with a nod to folk tradition.

Art Exhibition
Travis Janssen - Helvetica: Uppercase
August 26 – October 22 ~ Preston Jackson Gallery
A confluence of video, experimental typography and photo processes, Janssen’s work translates letterforms from the Helvetica typeface into meditative geometric images, implying vast space and structure onto a two-dimensional plane. This exhibit of video and prints investigates the nature of vision and transformation of the mundane into the sublime. Janssen is currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Printmaking Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Art Exhibition
Phyllis Bramson: Mostly Folly (and a Few Kerfuffles)
August 26 – October 15 ~ Gallery 3R
Bramson is a voyeur in her own eccentric narrative of romantic folly and loss. Her often steamy, dichotomous scenes are composed of vignettes in a theatrical like space. Bramson retired in 2007 as Professor Emerita from the University of Illinois in Chicago and has advised MFA students at the School of the Art Institute since 2007.
In collaboration with Fine Arts Society of Peoria and the Illinois Women Artists Project, Bramson will lecture at the Contemporary Art Center on September 17 at 3:30 before the reception.
