Slim Hickey’s fun, energetic music with roots in country swing, bluegrass, blues, rockabilly and rock & roll can be summarized as Hillbilly Jazz. Lead vocalist and songwriter Tim Wallis fills each song with challenging leads and lots of smooth slide guitar. Bass guitarist Jameson Mundy adds a rock-solid groove, the white line on the road the band travels. Playing with brushes, Josh Psydell’s steady beats on drums are the back-bone to Slim Hickey. Everyone enjoyed this group when they were featured in 2021 at our November 6 art reception. Hear Tim solo play at Chicken Pickin' the Steel Guitar Rag, instrumental by Tim Wallis - YouTube

Travis Janssen - Helvetica: Uppercase
August 26 – October 22 ~ Preston Jackson Gallery
A confluence of video, experimental typography and photo processes, Janssen’s work translates letterforms from the Helvetica typeface into meditative geometric images, implying vast space and structure onto a two-dimensional plane. This exhibit of video and prints investigates the nature of vision and transformation of the mundane into the sublime. Janssen is currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Printmaking Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

New Dressing Room at CAC
Help us create a dressing room! Band members need a place to change and store their personal items. When brides consider gallery rental for a wedding reception, a frequent question is, “where can I change?” Adding the room will improve rental income, a major source of revenue to support the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria. The goal is to raise $5,000 for cost of materials and labor. Donate on our website https://peoriacac.org/donation-page/ or mail a check, payable to “CAC”, to the address below.
Gift Basket Donation Items Wanted
In 2022 the CAC started to raffle off a gift basket each month at one of our events.
The response has been very positive! If you would like to donate a bottle of wine, chocolates, gift certificate, or cash towards future gift baskets, please contact Darlene or William at [email protected]
