Internet Access Project <+> City of Wildwood-Spectrum
NEW UPDATE #3 - September 2, 2022

As announced in late December 2021, the City has entered into an agreement with Spectrum Mid-America LLC to design, install and operate high-speed broadband internet service for the residents of Wildwood. Completing the number one priority of the City’s five-year Strategic Plan, this partnership with Spectrum will deliver fiber-based, high-speed internet service to the unserved and underserved areas of Wildwood who have been waiting for this service for many years. The City is investing $6.75 million in this project - that come from recent federal stimulus funds - and the project is expected to be completed within twenty-four months.

The THIRD UPDATE on the high-speed internet access project has just been issued by the City Administrator, Steve Cross, and provides great information on the project's current status.

Dear Wildwood Resident,

The City of Wildwood is pleased to provide this third update to the Spectrum internet project.  This update includes Map #5 which depicts the area where construction will begin in December.  Residents in this area could potentially have high-speed internet service available to them by the end of February 2023.  Also included with this update is a map of the total project area for phase one of the internet access project.  This map will help to identify the location of the five areas noted by Spectrum as the current buildout areas in relation to the total buildout area.  Please note that all homes within the shaded area labeled as “Total Area of Project” will be included in phase one of the buildout, to be completed within a twenty four month period.  Spectrum is continuing to develop the overall design plan of each location in Wildwood where they will be working and the timeframes for that work.  We will continue to share the location of each buildout area as Spectrum provides it to the City as well as an updated map of the total area of the project.  As with any project of similar scope, this timeframe is subject to change due to unforeseen construction delays.  The City will make every effort to update residents as to any changes in this schedule.

If you have not already done so, please go to the City’s website, www.cityofwildwood.com, and locate the box at the bottom of the first page of our website noted as Internet Access Project Updates.  If you click on this box, you will be able to enter your name, street address and email address to receive a direct email of each update when it is distributed.  If you do not have access to the City’s website, please feel free to send your information via email to [email protected] and the City will make sure your name gets added to the list.  Updates will also be included in the weekly E-Newsletter (sign up here), as well as being posted on the City’s FacebookInstagram, and Twitter social media sites, and we will include a link to the Internet Access Project Updates page on the website for you to sign up for the email updates.

Finally, these updates will also be available in print, and they will be posted on the wall in the second-floor vestibule of City Hall, as well as at the City’s Al Foster, Community, Bluff View, Anniversary and Green Pines Parks.

We are very excited that we are now able to move forward with the City’s most important strategic goal for our residents.  This project will take up to 24 months to complete, but at the end of this time period, every resident in Wildwood should have access to reliable, high-speed internet for their homes and businesses.

If you have any questions relative to the high-speed internet project, please feel free to reach out to Steve Cross, City Administrator.

Thank you.
