Wichita Finance Awarded Triple Crown Award

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recently recognized the City of Wichita Finance Department as a 2020 Triple Crown winner.

Governments that have received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the same fiscal year earn the Triple Crown award. Only 317 governments in the United States received the Triple Crown award for fiscal year 2020. GFOA has over 22,000 members.

GFOA is a national peer organization that establishes best practices for financial documents produced by governments across the United States. Only governments that produce documents meeting the different rigorous standards of each award are recognized by GFOA.

“The City is committed to transparency and excellence in financial reporting, and we are proud to have been recognized by GFOA as one of only 317 governments in the entire United States to receive the coveted Triple Crown award,” said Finance Director Mark Manning.

GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (COA) in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
