New Emergency Management System - CodeRED

Warson Woods has implemented CodeRED, a high-speed emergency mass notification service.

The CodeRED system will serve as the backbone of the Warson Woods emergency planning and communications outreach to both residents and staff. The system sends telephone calls, text messages, emails and posts to social media channels to inform residents to better protect life and property. The CodeRED system will be used to send critical communications, including: Inclement weather warnings, criminal activities, road closures/traffic alerts, shelter in place/lockdowns, boil water advisories, evacuation notices and missing persons/children alerts.

All residents living within the Warson Woods city limits can sign up one of the following ways:

Visit our Warson Woods CodeRED website here – For detailed step-by-step instructions on this option, click here

Text “WOODS” to 99411 for a direct link to sign up

April 2023 Municipal Election

-Election Volunteers Needed-

Volunteers Needed!

The Municipal Election is scheduled for April 4, 2023 and the St. Louis County Election Board asking the City of Warson Woods once again for help in meeting this election staffing challenge. Election Judges play a pivotal role in making it possible for citizens to rightfully exercise the franchise on Election Day.

A typical election will have over approximately 65% of voters cast ballots on Election Day at over 200 polling places across St. Louis County. Election Judges set up the polling place, manage the voting process, and secure the ballots for collection at the Election Board. They are truly the "backbone" of the electoral process. Serving as an Election Judge gives citizens a chance to be part of a grand community experience and to perform an important civic duty. The Election Board thanks all volunteers for their past support of this vital public service initiative. If interested in volunteering, go HERE or call (314) 615-5000.

Food Truck Tuesdays - Planners Needed!

We're looking for helpers to coordinate food trucks and live entertainment so that we can continue the tradition this year If you are interested in leading the planning this year (scheduling the trucks and music and getting the word out about each months' event, with our committee's support), please email Alderwoman Mayer at: [email protected]

Our hope is that Food Truck Tuesdays are right around the corner! They would be at Royal Oak Pavilion the Third Tuesdays in May (16th), June (20th), July (18th), August (15th), September (26th - this one is the 4th Tuesday) and October (17th) from 5-7pm before City Council meetings to allow our community to enjoy food truck fun. This is a great volunteer opportunity for getting involved.

Warson Woods Swim Club Board

There are many opportunities to join the Warson Woods Swim Club board and get involved in managing and running this treasured Warson Woods tradition. Many positions are ready for transition or could use assistance for the 2023 season. Email [email protected]  to get involved.

Nearby Restaurant News: Pasta House is Going In!

The Pasta House Co. is taking over the former Pi + Rico space near Woodlawn and Manchester. St. Louis Magazine has a story on this latest restaurant news in our area, including how they plan to incorporate the large U-shaped bar into their space and the new menu items they plan to create to fit that space. The new restaurant should open by late Spring. Get your pasta spoons ready for twirling!

Get Involved: Warson Woods Book Club

The Communication Committee thinks there would be sufficient interest in a book club in the area and we are looking for a team of 2-3 people who are willing to lead the effort. We are glad to support you by including the date/time/location on social media and in the newsletter or posting a blurb for people to signup if you want to organize in another way. If you have interest in getting something like this restarted (word on the street is that Warson Woods used to have a book club!), please email us at [email protected]

Ladies of the Woods Event a Success!

Thanks to resident Patrick Glabuer for planning the 2023 Ladies of the Woods event at Failoni's last week to gather several dozen women from our neighborhood for an evening of fun and friendship.

Patrick has posted information about the Men of the Woods event on the evening of June 6th for all men in the neighborhood in the In the Woods Facebook group for Warson Woods residents.

We are grateful to Patrick for organizing such a fun event!

Spotlight: Bruce Frazier

1. What is your official title?

I have many titles - I'm the head of Public Works (street department) and the Head of the Parks Department. I was basically a one-man band until we recently hired some help!

2. When did you begin working for the City of Warson Woods?

I have been with the city full-time for 3 1/2 years, after starting out part-time.

3. What are your duties?

To keep up with anything to do with street maintenance (within reason and capability) and maintain the parks. I also do preventative maintenance and operations on all City equipment.

4. What do you like most about your job?

I like the freedom of moving around the city and addressing all issues - both routine and emergencies.

5. What are some things the residents of Warson Woods can do to help keep our city beautiful and outdoor operating areas operating smoothly?

I would love for residents to keep their curbs free of leaves, as this clogs our storm sewers. Also, please clean up after yourselves in Royal Oak Park. Please no confetti, and keep an eye on the vandalism from the teenagers, especially in the bathrooms.

6. What is the strangest thing you've seen?

The strangest thing would have to be the total icing of the roads two years ago in Warson Woods. Everything froze in a matter of twenty minutes for about two hours. The salt I was trying to put down would not work!

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy hunting and fishing sports - anything with the great outdoors!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Bruce is nothing short of a Warson Woods superhero. Any time we've had a storm or other weather emergency, you can find him on-site, finding ways to help - day or night, weekday or weekend. We are forever grateful to have him!
