Currently, the City shares all news releases, public service announcements, public notices, City news, programs, and events information through one source, the City News - News Flash.

To improve communications and give residents and visitors more control over the information they receive from the City, we're moving away from one catch-all News Flash category. We have created three new categories: City News & Announcements, News Releases, and Public Notices. These categories will allow for more targeted messaging, and individuals can choose the information they want to receive. Changes will go into effect in January 2023.

City News Flash - New Categories

City News & Announcements - Sign up to receive notifications for city news, stories, programs, and services, public service announcements, road closures, public participation opportunities, city events, and more!
News Releases - Sign up to receive official statements and announcements from the City of Valdez.
Public Notices - Sign up to receive public notices. Public notices may include public meeting notices, ordinances, development/planning issues, liquor licenses, etc. A public notice is information alerting individuals of government or government-related activities that may cause an individual to take action.

How to Change Your Notify Me Preferences

1. Click on the Notify Me icon on the City of Valdez's main website.
2. Type your email address in the box and click on the
Sign In button.
3. Scroll down to the News Flash section to see the categories listed.

4. To subscribe or unsubscribe, click the email icon and/or the mobile phone icon next to the lists you wish to subscribe to/unsubscribe.
5. If you want to receive text messages, select the box next to - I would like to be able to receive text messages on my mobile phone, enter your phone number and select Save.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are the new categories only for City news and information? Yes! The new categories only apply to the News Flash topics. However, you can change your preferences on other Notify Me categories including Bid Postings and City Calendars.
2. When will these changes go into effect? The City will use the three new categories to share information beginning January 2023. We're encouraging all News Flash subscribers to update their preferences prior to January 2023.
3. What if I need technical assistance logging into Notify Me or changing my preferences? If you need help finding the Notify Me icon or would like help logging into Notify Me to update your preferences, you can contact the Communications Department by email at [email protected] or by calling 907.834.3400.
