Government and Politics
August 30, 2022
From: City Of North PortAugust is a month of transition for many; students from K-12 and post-secondary institutions return to their studies. At the same time, government agencies — including ours here in North Port — grow into a new incoming fiscal year. As such, this month is a great time to celebrate our City’s workforce, from professional development to talent acquisition.
A NEW WAVE OF WORKFORCE
In any workplace, there are always gaps between the things an organization must do and can do. In these moments, an intern can offer a solution. Internships are a win-win. While internships increase a participant’s job offers by 16 percent, employers also convert 56 percent of interns into entry-level, full-time assets.
Our region offers a few resources to help organizations get off the ground with an internship program, listed below.
-CareerSource Suncoast offers the Career StartUp program, which provides financial assistance for paid internships, education/training, and career counseling.
-Suncoast Technical College offers Job Placement Services, pairing employers with an educated and qualified workforce.
-Many post-secondary institutions — including State College of Florida and the University of South Florida — use Handshake to match employers with interns.
