City Council to meet Nov. 7

Mesquite City Council meets November 7 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. November 7 at [email protected] or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on November 7 to the following email address: [email protected]. View meeting agendas online. Town Hall Tuesday

The City of Mesquite is hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday, November 15, at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave in Training Rooms A & B, beginning at 6:30 p.m. to discuss services through the Economic Development department. Attendees will gain insight into upcoming projects in a site assessment exercise from the decision-makers perspective. Learn more here.

Mesquite to host Veterans Day Celebration

Join the City of Mesquite on Saturday, November 5 for a Veterans Day Celebration as we honor those who have served in the military. The event will be at 11:00 a.m. at Mesquite’s Veteran’s Memorial, located at City Lake Park, and will feature ceremonial activities, musical performances, and remarks by city leaders and veterans.  Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/PARD for info.

Weather Activated Relief for Mesquite

Weather Activated Relief for Mesquite (WARM) is a program sponsored by Sharing Life Community Outreach, the Mesquite Ministerial Alliance and the City of Mesquite to provide temporary shelter for individuals who are unsheltered during extreme weather conditions. Mesquite Recycles Day

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. will hold Mesquite Recycles Day at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive. The free event provides Mesquite residents the opportunity to drop off a variety of reusable items, electronic-waste and offers professional document shredding. Properly dispose of fats, oils and grease during the holidays

Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) is the residue left over from cooking meat, butter, sauces, oil and dairy products. FOG and debris poured down drains can cause expensive sewer backups to homeowners. Used holiday cooking oil may be recycled for free at the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center, or at a drop-off location listed on the Defend Your Drains website at www.defendyourdrainsnorthtexas.com. Parks and Recreation Turkey Camp

Over Thanksgiving break, students in kindergarten through sixth grade can spend a day or the whole week playing games, creating holiday crafts, and experiencing other fun activities. Turkey Camp will be available at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 21 - 25 (no camp on Thursday, Nov. 24). The fee is $20 per day (per resident) and $30 per day (per non-resident). Register online at www.cityofmesquite.com/HolidayCamps.
