In Memory of Chief Ron McArtor
Ron J. McArtor, age 66 of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away on August 10, 2022 in Omaha, Nebraska. Ron was born May 1, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Howard and Edith (Barrett) McArtor. Ron grew up in Chicago. Ron enlisted in the US Navy at the age of seventeen and began active duty after turning eighteen and graduating from high school. Ron was stationed in Adak, Alaska where Ron was a member of the Navy Fire Department. Ron was a Chief Petty Officer on USS Lexington which was one of the last wooden deck air craft carriers. Upon completion of his military service, Ron became a full-time Fire Fighter with the city of Mary Esther. Through his hard work and dedication Ron was promoted to the position of Fire Chief of the Mary Esther Fire Department. Ron had an enormous impact on the Fire Community. He was contributory in the creation of Fire Sprinkler Ordinances and Correct Safe Staffing for Fire Engines. Ron was instrumental in the careers of many of today’s Local Fire Service Leaders (nwfdailynews.com). Chief McArtor worked at the City of Mary Esther for 35 years, beginning his service on April 15, 1983.
