The Longview Parks and Recreation Department and Texas Organic are partnering to improve the landscape at Lois Jackson Park.  

Texas Organic is a Tyler, Texas-based company providing composts, mulches and premium soil blends for Northeast Texas.  After seeing a news story about the flooding and erosion at Longview parks, Texas Organic CEO and Founder John Soules offered to help establish better turf through the introduction of compost to the soils.

Compost enriches the soil allowing for grass to have a better root structure leading to healthier, thicker and greener turf that is able to better withstand erosion.  

Through the partnership, Lois Jackson Park, located at 200 Bill Owens Parkway, will receive approximately 30 yards of compost.  The Parks Department will aerate the current soil and spread the compost.  Once the compost has worked into the ground, the area will be overseeded with rye for the winter and bermuda in the spring.
