EU System Maintenance Project Sees Results
The City of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities has been hard at work performing active maintenance across the system. This maintenance includes things such as:
- infrared inspections
- installing animal guards
- rebuilding breakers
- increased vegetation management
- installation of improved recloser devices

As a utility the City of Lake Worth Beach submits all its outage numbers to the Florida Municipal Power Association which uses various reliability indices to aid in consistent reporting across utilities and allows internal and external peer review: These indices provide benchmarks for data based understanding of how a utility is performing.

SAIFI
The SAIFI index measures the average frequency of interruptions (longer than 60 seconds) for the average customer.

Compared to July last year, this July the City has seen a 53.9% reduction in the number of interruptions for the average customer.

SAIDI
The SAIDI index measures the average duration of interruptions for the average customer.

Compared to July last year, this July the City has seen a 31% reduction in the length of interruptions for the average customer.

LBAR
The LBAR index measures the average length of a single outage. This number is directly related to crew response.

Compared to July last year, this July the City has seen a 28.5% improvement in crew response times per outage. A true testament to the teamwork that is improving the whole utility.

MAIFI
The MAIFI index measures the average frequency of momentary (less than 60 seconds) interruption events for the average customer.

Compared to July last year, this July the City has seen an 83% reduction in the number of interruptions for the average customer.

Upcoming Road Works!
Work is starting on the I95 between 10th Ave N and Forest Hill Blvd. This $3.4 million FDOT project will take roughly 1 year to complete and involves
-Milling and resurfacing segments of I-95 in both directions
-Installing new signage and upgrading existing lighting with LED luminaires
-Installing new Road Weather Information System (RWIS)
-Installing new overhead Dynamic Message Sign on I-95 northbound just south of 10th Avenue North

The project will cause the following traffic disruptions:
-Construction will occur in phases to minimize impacts to the public.
-I-95 may have one lane closed in each direction nightly, 9 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
-A full overnight closure of I-95 northbound is required to safely install the new overhead sign structure and dynamic message board. Two additional nights of full closures may be used as contingency. Ample notice will be provided to the public prior to this operation.
-Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

EU Outage Tracker
One of everyone's least favorite parts of a hurricane are power outages. Here is what to know and what to do when you experience an outage!

Our system alerts us immediately when there is an outage so our teams can respond. You can check active outages on this map and also report an outage in the rare case it is not already showing.

Hurricane Watch vs Hurricane Warning
Listen for National Weather Service alerts on TV or radio or check for them online. There are two kinds of alerts:

A hurricane watch means hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 miles per hour [mph] or higher) are possible in a stated area. Experts announce hurricane watches 48 hours before they expect tropical-storm-force winds (sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph) to start.

A hurricane warning is more serious. It means hurricane-force winds are expected in a stated area. Experts issue these warnings 36 hours before tropical-storm-force winds are expected in the area to give people enough time to prepare for the storm.

For more information about hurricane watches and warnings, check out the National Weather Service’s Hurricane Center (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/prepare/wwa.php). If you hear that there is a hurricane watch or warning in your area, you can take steps to get ready.

Lake Worth Beach Ocean Rescue has launched the Beach Buddies Wristband Program!

When parents arrive at Lake Worth Beach they can take their child/children to the Lifeguard Towers where they will be given a free wristband to write the parents phone number on. The children will be instructed to go to the lifeguard towers if they get lost and our lifeguards will call their parents! Here's another way our Ocean Rescue Team is striving to keep the beach safe for all!

For more information please speak to our team at one of our lifeguard towers.
