Let's Welcome Paul Buddenhagen, Emeryville's New City Manager
We are excited to welcome Paul Buddenhagen as Emeryville’s new City Manager! Mr. Buddenhagen will be sworn in at City Hall and take his oath of office on his first day, January 17, 2023.

“I’m excited to join Emeryville as the next City Manager. The city has a visionary, dynamic council, with smart, hardworking staff, and engaged residents and businesses. I have lived on the Emeryville border for twenty-one years and it has had a profoundly positive impact on me and my family. I’m honored to join the City of Emeryville,” said Mr. Buddenhagen.  

Mr. Buddenhagen has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Macalester College and a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare with a focus on management and planning from UC Berkeley. Mr. Buddenhagen brings more than 24 years of professional management experience to his new role, including four years as the Deputy City Manager of the City of Berkeley, two previous years as Director of Health, Housing and Community Services for the City of Berkeley, and eighteen years with the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department.

Mr. Buddenhagen’s first City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
