LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 200 E. Lexington Ave., El Cajon California

RESUME OF INCIDENT:

TRANSIENT ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY AND INDECENT EXPOSURE

On August 16, 2022 at approximately 5:15 AM, a man entered an elderly woman’s apartment in the 200 block of East Lexington Avenue. While the woman slept, the suspect searched through her belongings and opened her bedroom door but did not go inside. He then went into the living room, turned on the television, and masturbated before falling asleep.

A family member of the victim saw the suspect on an indoor security camera and called 9-1-1. Officers responded and arrested the suspect without incident, and believe entry to the apartment was made through an unlocked front door.

The suspect is transient and has been identified as 44 year-old David Sharpe. Sharpe will be booked into the San Diego County Jail on the following charges:  Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Indecent Exposure. Sharpe was found to be on state parole with an extensive violent criminal history, with prior arrests for burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, home invasion robbery, and attempt murder.

The El Cajon Police Department would like to remind the community to always lock windows and doors when leaving their residence or when going to bed at night. We know it has been very hot lately, but criminals often use this as an opportunity to find unlocked points of entry into homes and businesses.
