Have You Tested Your Home Smoke Alarms This Month?

The Coppell Fire Department and Life Safety Park want to remind you to test your home smoke alarms each month. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Smoke and fire spread quickly if there is a fire in your home, and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.

Here's what you need to know:

- Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home.
- Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
- Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
- Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
- Today’s smoke alarms are more technologically advanced and respond to a multitude of fire conditions while mitigating false alarms.
- Teach family members to get outside and stay outside when a smoke alarm sounds.
- A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Sleep with bedroom doors closed and close doors behind you in the event of an evacuation.
- Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.

Learn more about the installation and maintenance of home smoke alarms and be sure to connect with Life Safety Park on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and the Coppell Fire Department on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

NTFB Peanut Butter Drive — Ends TOMORROW!
