City of Coppell Selects New Deputy City Manager

The City of Coppell is proud to announce that Kent Collins has been selected to serve as Deputy City Manager effective January 28, 2023. Collins has worked as the City’s Director of Public Works since 2018 and will replace Vicki Chiavetta who is retiring at the end of this week.

Collins has worked as an engineer, project manager, and director for 28 years at various organizations, including DFW Airport, Texas A&M Transportation Institute, the City of Coppell from 1998-2000, and the Town of Flower Mound. During this time, he also served as the Assistant Town Manager of Flower Mound for nearly five years. He returned to the City of Coppell in 2016 as the Assistant Director of Engineering. Collins has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M, is a licensed Professional Engineer, and a Certified Floodplain Manager.

“I’m thrilled with this opportunity to continue to be part of this great leadership team and support the organization on a broader level,” Collins said. “My goal each day is to provide the best service I can to the organization and community. I’m excited for the future and where we’re headed.”

The City of Coppell will also host a City Council Candidate Orientation at 6 pm, TONIGHT, January 26, in the Council Chambers at Coppell Town Center. Regional Neighborhood Summit

Hosted by the City of Coppell, the Town of Flower Mound, and the City of Lewisville, the event will feature a variety of information sessions presented by local leaders and industry professionals. Topics include neighborhood conflict resolution, how to spot contractor fraud, block party planning 101, and a neighborhood leadership panel discussion. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet city officials and learn more about what’s happening in their respective communities.

City to Offer Tool Lending Program

Don’t put off those spring projects just because you don’t have the right tools. Rent a variety of tools and equipment for property cleanup and improvement projects free of charge through the City of Coppell’s new Tool Lending Program.

Starting in February, Coppell residents over the age of 18 will be eligible to borrow individual tools from the City’s Tool Lending Trailer by filling out a user release form and an online application. Upon review of the application and equipment availability, tools will be delivered by staff and can be borrowed for up to a week. Available tools include a lawn mower, bow rake, round shovel, leaf rake, loppers, shears, push broom, hard hat, and safety glasses.

Service organizations and Neighborhood or Homeowners Associations are eligible to rent the entire Tool Lending Trailer for a weekend with a $100 deposit. A representative must complete an online request form and all users must sign a user release form. The deposit is refundable when the trailer is returned with all contents in good condition.

Indoor Pool Closure

The indoor pool at The CORE will be closed from 8 - 10 am on Monday, January 30, due to staffing. Regular hours will resume after 10 am. View the indoor pool schedule.

Mindfulness Practice

Cozby Cares: Animal Services

Cozby Cares programs are a way for teens in Coppell to give back to the community by earning service hours and having fun! This month's program is geared towards giving back to Coppell Animal Services. Volunteers will make dog chew toys and no-sew cat or kitten beds. All materials will be provided at this come and go event. Any forms that need to be signed for service hours must be brought to any library staff member before closing time that night.
