Shugar Bowl Saturday, November 5

The Auburn Youth Football Association will host the 2022 Shugar Bowl on Saturday, November 5 at Duck Samford Football Stadium. The Shugar Bowl is the Auburn Youth Football Association's League Championship and began in 1974 in honor of legendary AU Coach Ralph "Shug" Jordan. Admission is $5 and FREE for children 12 and under. The public is invited to attend, Proceeds from sponsorships and gate admission support scholarships for athletes in need of assistance for the 2023 football season.

There will be four championship games. The kick off for the first flag game championship for ages 8 & 9 will begin at 9 a.m. and 10:30 for ages 10 – 12. The SEC tackle football championship for ages 8 & 9 will begin at noon and the NFL championship game for ages 10-12 will begin at 1:30 p.m. The Attendees are encouraged to park behind Duck Samford Football Stadium off Glenn Avenue. The lower parking lot off East University Drive will be closed. All seating will be on the home side of the stadium. Special thanks to Auburn High School for providing facilities and staff for the event.

Auburn Arts Association yART sale Saturday, November 5

This November, the Auburn Arts Association (AAA) will be hosting a ‘yART’ Sale. The yART Sale a creative spin on the traditional yard sale, featuring the second-hand sale of loved art pieces, art supplies, books, unusual items and quirky treasures. As the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) prepares for renovations, they are clearing out lots of creative pieces and supplies that need a new home!

All proceeds from the yART Sale serve as a donation to the Auburn Arts Association and helps fund cooperative art education programs such as Art Camps, professional opportunities for area artists, technical assistance and financial support for community-based arts initiatives, scholarships and the AAA’s exhibition program.

Ho Ho Ho Hike Tickets go on sale Mon., Nov. 7

Santa Claus is coming to town! The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center and the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center are joining together to present the Ho Ho Ho Hike and Holiday Celebration. Children of all ages are invited to this holiday celebration on Saturday, December 3rd from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center. Children are required to be accompanied by an adult ticket holder. Children 23 months and younger are FREE with the purchase of an adult ticket.

The cost is $15/person for participants 24 months (2 years) and older. Make sure to purchase your tickets early, because this event sells out fast!

Tickets for this event will go on sale Monday, November 7th, online. Tickets can be purchased by visiting auburn.edu/preserve. A link to the event will also be posted on the City of Auburn Facebook events page, auburnalabama.org/arts.

The Ho Ho Ho Hike and Holiday Celebration begins at 10 a.m. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before 10 a.m. The event will include nature-themed crafts, performances and cookies and hot chocolate. There will also be a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus! The event will include the traditional hike and a fun “Santa-hunt”. Wear comfortable walking shoes and come celebrate the holiday season with the Clauses!

2023 Winter Program Registration begins online Mon., Nov. 7

The 2023 Auburn Parks and Recreation winter brochure is now available in print or online at auburnalabama.org/parks. Printed brochures are available at the Harris Center, the Auburn Public Library and all Auburn Parks and Recreation facilities.

Registration for winter programs will begin Mon., Nov. 7. Visit auburnal.myrec.com to create an account to register for fall programs, fall youth athletics or to reserve a park, pavilion or facility. For more information, call 334-501-2930.

Jingle Jog and Santa Stroll online registration going on now

The Jingle Jog 5k and Santa Stroll Fun Run are here again – so pull out those Santa hats and ugly sweaters! Join Active Auburn on Saturday, December 3rd at 6:30 a.m. as we ring in the holiday season in style! The Santa Stroll Fun Run (1 mile) will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Toomer’s Corner and the Jingle Jog 5k will begin at 7:00 a.m. at Toomer’s Corner.

A schedule of registration fees is as follows:

Early Bird Registration: September 5 – October 28 - $15

Registration: October 29 – November 17*: $20

Late Registration: November 18 – November 26: $25

Day-of Registration: December 3: $35

Jingle Jog 5k:

In order to be guaranteed a t-shirt, participants must register by Thursday, November 17th.

Auburn Parks and Recreation accepting reservation request online

Auburn Parks and Recreation is now accepting facility and park reservation requests online. Those who wish to reserve a facility, athletic facility, or park pavilion can complete their application for request using their online account at auburnal.myrec.com.

Please make all requests at least two weeks prior to the desired reservation date in order to leave time for the approval process. Requests must be reviewed and approved by the facility director and department director. Once approved, payments can be made online using a credit card or by cash or check in-person at the Harris Center.

Frank Brown Recreation Center Membership Card Required to play racquetball and free basketball

Auburn Parks and Recreation now requires membership cards for free play basketball and racquetball.

Free play basketball and racquetball at Frank Brown Recreation Center are open free of charge to citizens who live, work or attend school within the city limits of Auburn, AL and to non-citizens for a one-time $25.00 fee. A membership must be acquired for free play basketball and racquetball regardless of age. Replacement cards will cost $25.00 regardless of residency. The membership card is non-transferable and can only be used by the card holder. You must be at least 13 years of age to participate in free play basketball and 15 years of age to participate in racquetball. Children ages 13-18 must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian at the time of application.

Memberships can be obtained at the Harris Center Mon. – Fri. 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. To view a membership application, including a list of acceptable proof of residency documents, visit auburnalabama.org/parks.

Frank Brown Recreation Center is open Mon. – Fri. 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sat. 8 a.m.-11 a.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. The Frank Brown Recreation Center is located at 235 Opelika Road. For more information call 334-501-2962.
