JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the custodial maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES

Performs custodial maintenance duties. (60%)

-Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
-Vacuums and shampoos carpet.
-Washes windows and doors.
-Cleans meeting rooms, hallways, offices, kitchens, and other areas.
-Cleans restrooms; cleans doors and walls; cleans fixtures; cleans floors; refills soap dispensers.
-Removes trash from buildings and grounds.
-Dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
-Empties waste receptacles.
-Checks mats.

Performs minor repair and maintenance duties. (20%)

-Touches up paint on facilities.
-Changes light bulbs.

Moves furniture. (10%)

-Sets up tables and chairs.
-Moves office furniture.
-Sets up for public events.

Performs related duties. (10%)

-Demonstrates punctual, regular, and reliable attendance.
-Attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
-Provides innovative solutions to enhance current processes and procedures and/or resolve workplace issues.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
     
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

-Knowledge of custodial maintenance methods and practices.
-Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, practices and procedures.
-Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals.
-Skill in operating specialized cleaning equipment.
-Skill in using various hand tools.
-Skill in oral and written communication.
-Ability to work cooperatively with others.
 
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Facilities – Equipment Maintenance Superintendent or Cultural Arts Administrator assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
 
GUIDELINES

Guidelines include departmental standard operating procedure, work orders, supervisory instructions, and City of Auburn Core Values, Vision, and Mission statements. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
 
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

-The work consists of related maintenance duties. The need to perform duties in the presence of co-workers and members of the general public contributes to the complexity of the position.
-The purpose of this position is to maintain department facilities. Success in this position contributes to the provision of clean facilities for use by co-workers and the general public.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers and members of the general public.
-Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

-The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects weighing less than 24 pounds and heavy objects weighing 24 pounds or more, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
-The work is performed indoors and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

-Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
-Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
