City Of American Canyon - Neighborhood Watch Newsletter - August 2022

Government and Politics

August 17, 2022

From: City Of American Canyon

Summer vacation mode is over for most of us, and tomorrow is the first day of school for NVUSD students. Hopefully, everyone had a great summer and enjoyed time with family and friends.

More vehicles and pedestrians on our roadways come on the first day of school. Please be patient, allow yourselves extra time for school drop-offs, and be mindful of the rules of the road. For kids walking or riding bikes to school, I ask parents to educate them again on using crosswalks and wearing helmets while riding bicycles. Look both ways when crossing the streets and make eye contact with vehicle drivers.

Here are tips and reminders of laws related to buses and school zones.

-Stopping for a school bus is mandatory.
-School zone speed limits are not a suggestion.
-Yield to pedestrians and crossing guards even if they are not in a designated crossing area.
-Respect areas designated as no parking zones in and around schools when dropping children off.
-Leave a few minutes early to compensate for the added time during your commute.
-A collision or getting stopped by an officer for violating the law will cause a greater delay than the time it takes to follow the law and ensure the safety of everyone.
-ACPD Officers will be out looking for violators and issuing citations.

ACPD Officers had a wonderful time visiting all the block parties at this year’s National Night Out. We appreciate all the support the community gives to us and are already looking forward to next year’s event.

REMINDER we have been receiving reports of crime and suspicious activities through messenger and comments on our social media pages and second-hand through residents telling us about posts they see on Nextdoor. As a reminder, the City, Police Department, and Fire Protection District cannot view nor participate in the conversations amongst residents within Nextdoor. Unfortunately, we cannot monitor our social media pages 24/7 for crime reporting. To better serve the community, we request the reports go through our dispatch center, (707) 253-4451, or 911 for an emergency (please share this information when you see a post on Nextdoor or out on social media).

Respectfully,

Rick Greenberg
Chief of Police
