City Of American Canyon Manager's Update - September 30, 2022

Hello,

We started our week here at City Hall by welcoming 100+ Donaldson Way Elementary School students who came for a tour to learn about their local government. Next, we welcomed the 6th cohort of the American Canyon Citizens Academy for their introduction session. The week ended with a visit to American Canyon High School for this year's kick-off to the high school version of our Citizens Academy.  Engaged members of the community of all ages inspire the work we do each day.

Ballots for the November 8, 2022 General Election will be automatically mailed to all active, registered Napa County voters in the next few weeks. The deadline to register to vote is October 24, 2022. The American Canyon Chamber of Commerce hosted a City Council Candidate Forum this week. The recording is available here. I encourage all American Canyon residents to educate themselves and undertake their patriotic duty to vote.

Lastly, we are aware of the tanker cars parked on the railroad lines in town seemingly for many weeks on end. We know and agree they are unsightly and hope they are moved soon. The City is exploring what options might be available to “encourage” the railroad to move the tanker cars, but unfortunately, the railroad lines pre-date the City, and because railroad are regulated by the Federal Surface Transportation Board, the Federal Railway Administration and the California Public Utilities Commission, locally, the City has little to no control over their activity (or inactivity) on the rail lines.

Take Care,

Jason B. Holley
City Manager
