City Of American Canyon Manager's Update - October 28, 2022

Government and Politics

November 1, 2022

From: City Of American Canyon

Hello,

Election Day is less than two weeks away - on November 8th. If you haven't voted yet, it's easy, open your ballot, flip to the back side of both pages to vote locally, work your way through the rest of your selections, then stuff, seal, and sign the envelope. You can mail it back in the paid return postage envelope, drop it off at the secure drop box in front of City Hall (4381 Broadway), or at a Vote Center in person, or drive thru before 8 PM, on November 8, 2022.

Voting in elections of all levels is really important but voting locally has the most potential to affect how things are done in OUR community! American Canyon voters will decide the fate of two Measures and choose their candidates for the two openings on City Council. Why is it important to vote in our City Council elections? Because the people that fill these roles directly impact our community.

As our community heads into a Halloween celebration without safety recommendations related to the pandemic, there are still safety measures to consider! Most importantly, always be aware of your surroundings and call 911 if you observe any dangerous or suspicious activities. Other Halloween Safety Tips:

-Make sure your children's costumes are properly sized to avoid tripping or falling.

-Have children wear reflective markings or carry a flashlight so they can be seen.

-Always accompany your young children when they are trick or treating.

-Try non-toxic makeup instead of a mask so vision is not limited.

-Always check candy before letting your child eat it. Avoid homemade treats from strangers.

-Keep children on a sidewalk or path and do not run across the street. Always walk together and cross at street corners or walk signals.

Lastly, if you're interested in being a part of the Magic of the Season Lighted Parade click here to sign up before November 14th.

Get Out the Vote!

You can have an impact on voter turnout and on our local elections. The November 8th General Election is just around the corner, and it's time to mobilize and GET OUT THE VOTE! We've included a variety of helpful tools and resources here.

Only Rain in the Drain!

It’s always exciting to see the leaves change and fall, but that means we also need to take extra precautions to protect our stormwater systems.

Help us protect our stormwater systems by ensuring no leaves end up in the gutter. The effects might not be immediately visible, but raking leaves into the gutter negatively affects our local environment & wildlife. It can lead to localized flooding, pollution in the Napa River, and increased mosquito presence.

We ask that AmCan residents avoid blowing, raking or piling leaves into the gutter and instead utilize your yard waste bin from Recology Vallejo-American Canyon! ? Once picked up, the leaves are composted to make new soil–helping the environment instead of hurting it.

Need an additional waste bin? Contact Recology today!
