City Of American Canyon Manager's Update - November 11, 2022

Government and Politics

November 12, 2022

From: City Of American Canyon

City offices will be closed November 11, 2022, in honor of Veteran's Day.

Hey AmCan, are you ready for an exciting weekend!?!

Starting Friday morning, we will honor our Veterans at the American Canyon Veterans Day Ceremony. This event is brought to you by the American Canyon Troop Support, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1123, and American Canyon Lions Club. The ceremony begins at 11 AM at the American Canyon Middle School Gymnasium (100 Benton Way). Our special guest speaker is Hermie Sunga, a local veteran who will share his experiences with us.

Then on Friday night, the lights will be on, and you will hear the unmistakable howling from the Wolf Den as the American Canyon High School (ACHS) Wolves Varsity Football Team hosts the Casa Grande Gauchos of Petaluma in the first round of playoffs. The game will begin at 7 PM; tickets can be purchased online at https://gofan.co/app/school/CA68822

On Saturday morning, Girls on the Run will host a 5K run at the Wetlands Trail from 9 -11 AM; parking may be limited, and the trails will be busy. If you choose to use the trails that day, we hope you encourage these participants and help cheer them on!

Local Boy Scouts will be "Scouting for Food" too! If you'd like to participate, please place non-perishable foods in a recycled bag or box and place it outside in view of the street before 9 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2022. See the flyer below for more information.

Also, on Saturday morning, the ACHS Marching Band will play host to 18 other high school marching bands in the “Napa Valley Band Reserve” (NVBR).  The Parade Competition starts at 9:00 AM and is free to attend - I encourage everyone to support our local youth! This event will involve street closures in the Canyon Oaks Elementary School area (see below for more details). The NVBR moves to Memorial Stadium in Napa for the Field Competition at 2:00 PM. Tickets for the Field Competition are available online at ACHSMusic.org and will be available at the Memorial Stadium ticket booth starting at noon on the event day.

We Want to Hear from You

We want your feedback on the Wetlands Restoration Plan. On October 25, 2022, we hosted a Community Meeting to provide all of the details on the Wetlands Restoration Plan. If you missed that meeting, you can view it here. Now, we want to hear your feedback on the plan! Give us your feedback and comments on this Restoration Plan via our quick and easy online survey.

Only Rain in the Drain!

Help us protect our stormwater systems by ensuring no leaves end up in the gutter! Raking leaves into the gutter negatively affects our local environment & wildlife and can lead to localized flooding, pollution in the Napa River, and increased mosquito presence.

Avoid blowing, raking or piling leaves into the gutter and instead utilize your yard waste bin from Recology Vallejo-American Canyon. Need an additional waste bin? Contact Recology today!

Neighborhood Watch Update

Chief Greenberg has released his new Neighborhood Watch update! We want to hear from you in a survey about community safety. Click here to read the full newsletter and take the survey today!

On Monday, Nov. 7, Caltrans began significant work related to the State Route 29/ 221 Soscol Junction Interchange Project. As a result, motorists traveling on Soscol Ferry Road will not be able to access State Route 221(SR-221) connector ramp in Napa County. The traveling public will still be able to access southbound(SB)/northbound (NB) on State Route 29(SR-29).
