City Of American Canyon Manager's Update - February 3, 2023

Government and Politics

February 6, 2023

From: City Of American Canyon

Hello,

The City of American Canyon is honored to recognize February as Black History Month. Together, we celebrate the contributions and achievements of the Black community, and we recognize the ongoing fight for justice and equality. Join us in uplifting the voices and stories of those who have shaped our city and nation.

Next Tuesday, February 7, the City Council will adopt a proclamation acknowledging Black History Month and hear from local leader Brenda Knight about plans for the Juneteenth celebration this year. The Council will also consider additional funding for a new Skatepark and upgrades to the former Napa Junction School. We would like to hear from you on these matters; this is your chance to voice your suggestions and input, helping us enhance the parks and recreational experiences here in American Canyon. Tune in at 6:30 PM to learn more and share your perspectives.

This past Tuesday, the Council approved our latest “Housing Element." This important planning tool outlines new housing opportunities for future residents. You can learn more about this plan at AmCan2040.org and obtain information about all of the new development activity here.

Last night, staff hosted a Traffic Safety Workshop at the Boys and Girls Club.  Approximately 24 community members learned about the various plans the City is working on to improve safety for all modes of transportation in the community. Topics included recently completed projects, upcoming projects, traffic incidents and enforcement updates, and the need for collaboration with all community members to take the "We ?? Safe Streets" Pledge and assimilate the actions into their daily lives.

Next Thursday the Parks and Community Services Commission will consider revision to the fees we charge for recreation programs, aquatics programs and facility rental.  Tune in at 6:30p to learn more and share your perspectives.

Lastly, tomorrow is the first Community Cats class. It is a free class, but please register here.

Take care,

Jason B. Holley
City Manager
