Chief's Message

As fall speeds towards us, summer has decided to hold on just a little bit longer. This Labor Day Weekend, Napa County is expected to see temperatures near and possibly over 100 degrees in some spots. Here are a few reminders to beat the heat and stay safe:

- Headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, cramps, high body temperature, or a fast pulse are among the signs of heat-related illness. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek medical help immediately and move to a cooler place.
- Stay hydrated. Avoid alcoholic drinks and too much caffeine and sugar. Bring water with you wherever you go outside.
- Seek shade and be sure to decrease your overall level of physical exertion. Limit outdoor activities to mornings and evenings when it is cooler. Protect yourself from the sun and use sunscreen.
- Refrain from mowing your yard or anything that could create a spark.
- Do not leave pets in vehicles. Also make sure when outside they have shade and plenty of water.
- The California ISO has issued a statewide Flex Alert through Tuesday, September 6th from 4-9 p.m. due to excessive heat and high energy demand. Consumers are encouraged to reduce their energy use to protect grid reliability. This means avoiding using major appliances and conserving power between 4-9 p.m.

In other Fire District news, I am pleased to announced that the Fire District Board of Directors approved the purchase of two type 1 Fire Engines a the District Board meeting on Tuesday, August 23rd. The purchase of these Engines will allow the District to replace two aging Engines and continue to plan for fleet rotation. Type 1 Engines are the ‘everyday’ Fire Engines seen around the community and are equipped with Advanced Life Support (ALS) gear, 500 gallons of water, ladders, life saving tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and more. I am extremely grateful to the Board for the support in the purchase of these Fire Engines.

I would like to personally invite you to the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony & Moment of Silence. The ceremony will take place at Station 11, 911 Donaldson Way E, American Canyon on Sunday September 11th at 11:00 am. Please join us, American Canyon Police Department and Napa Sheriff’s Honor Guard as we remember the tragic events of that fateful day and all who perished.

National Night Out 2022

AmCan Fire joined AmCan PD and the City of American Canyon in celebrating National Night Out 2022. We had a blast visiting numerous block parties, being invited to share in fun games, great meals and an epic dance off!

This event is a great way to meet your neighbors and reinforcing a sense of community, something that is pretty special here in AmCan.

We look forward to seeing you next year!
