Chief's Message

Exciting things are happening at the Fire District. On October 28th our four newest recruits completed the in-house fire academy. This four-week academy consists of District familiarization, operations, emergency medical training, vehicle extrication, firefighter survival training, live fire training, and much more. Please help us by welcoming Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Conner Alexander, Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Eric Hanson, Probationary Firefighter Sarah Bayersdorfer, and Probationary Firefighter Chris Heim.

The academy was led by Captain Kenny Diede, who was a true leader in taking charge of setting the recruits up for a successful experience. I also want to thank all of the members of the District. Everyone stepped in to assist in drills, fire ground training, and over night shifts. I am proud of the teamwork that continues to occur daily not only for the recruits but for the community as a whole.

This morning, Assistant Chief Cliff Campbell joined the AmCan Fire family. Chief Campbell served the City of Vallejo Fire Department for 22 years and we are thrilled to have him join our leadership team.

With the hiring of Assistant Chief Campbell, we will be saying farewell to Interim Assistant Chief Jim Comisky. Chief Comisky has served the District twice, stepping in to fill the Assistant Chief / Operations role at critical times and we are grateful for his service and friendship. Thanks, Chief!

On Tuesday, October 25th the Fire District Board of Directors adopted a Long-Range Master Plan. The Master Plan will assist in establishing a foundation for future planning for the District. This includes short-term, mid-term, and long-term strategies to ensure fiscal, personnel, resource, and response planning. This is another tool in our toolbox and I am grateful for the support from the Board.

Switching gears, the weather is changing and that brings fire hazards. Rain is here which brings the cold and the usage of fireplaces and heaters. Please make sure your chimney is free and clear of any debris and has a chimney cap that prevents debris or animals from obstructing the flue. When lighting a fire make sure to use the right fuel. Well-seasoned wood is the best fuel, do not burn Christmas Trees, pressure treated, or painted lumber. This can easily cause a fire in your home.

The rain will also bring traffic accidents. Slow down, and allow more room to stop as the roads become slick with the oils that rise to the top. Use your turn signals, buckle up, and ALWAYS when you see the RED LIGHTS, MOVE TO THE RIGHT!

Public Safety Open House 2022
On Saturday, October 8th, we hosted the Public Safety Open House at Station 11.

We were so excited to see so many community members and friends and show them how we serve them, and most importantly this years NFPA theme...

Halloween Fun

AmCan Fire crews were invited to participate in several Trunk or Treats to celebrate Halloween. We had an INCREDIBLE time! The costumes were amazing, and the events were full of fun.

We think the firefighters may have had more fun than the kids!

Fire Extinguisher Training

In the afternoon of Monday, October 31st, Engine 211's crew, led by Acting Captain/Paramedic Chad Pilkington, conducted fire extinguisher training at Westlake Royal Stone Solutions in American Canyon.

This annual training partnership assists in reducing any incidents.

Safe Trick or Treating with AmCan Fire

On Monday, October 31st, we opened the Fire Stations to hand out candy and popcorn to our community. We saw over 750 friends and can't wait until next year.

What is CERT?

Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is a nationally recognized emergency training course that teaches essential emergency response skills. By taking and completing the CERT course you will gain the skills and confidence necessary to help yourself, your family, and your community during a disaster.

Recent ACCERT Highlights

ACCERT participated in the Annual County wide CERT drill on Saturday, November 5th. The participates included Berryessa CERT, Napa CERT, Napa County CERT, and Napa CART.

The drill conducted was an 'Rapid Damage Assessment' after a simulated 7.0 earthquake. The teams scoured the surrounding neighborhoods of Fuller Park in Napa. Napa Fire Department Station 5 and Napa County Animal Shelter also participated in the drill.

A total of 35 people participated in the drill, nine of which were ACCERT members.

CERT Basic Classes

Pending community feedback, additional classes may be scheduled locally here in American Canyon or at Napa Valley College. Email [email protected] to express interest in taking a class.
