Chief's Message

Happy New Year, welcome 2023! 2022 has brought American Canyon Fire growth, opportunity and several new faces. We are excited to continue on that trajectory in 2023.

The Fire District Board of Directors have been not only extremely supportive of the need for two Battalion Chiefs, but are visionaries of what the community of what American Canyon needs. We have had a 7% increase in calls for service in 2022, this is an above average rise in service request. The Board has seen, and meet the need. An amazing investment in our community.

We are excited to say we are currently recruiting for those positions. These new hires will allow for the Battalion Chief  to provide enhanced incident command for complex emergency and multi company incidents. If you, or someone you know is interested, please visit www.governmentjobs.com The recruitment closes January 8th.

While we are working on filling these positions, I wanted to give you a quick safety reminder regarding the upcoming weather front. Per the the National Weather Service the recent rain we have seen will continue at least through Tuesday. For American Canyon this will include 3-4 inches of rain, wind gusts, and potential flooding in low lying areas. Here are some tips in keeping you and your loved ones safe:

- Do not drive through standing water, TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN

- Prepare for potential power outages by creating a ‘Go Bag’ https://readynapacounty.org/192/Preparedness

- Secure any loose items outdoors

- If you see downed or loose wires, do not touch them and call 9-1-1

Another useful tool is Nixle. Nixle is American Canyon’s local alert system. Through Nixle, the City may send Alerts (emergency notifications), Advisories (time-sensitive & non time-sensitive important information), or Community messages (non time-sensitive information).

To sign up for Nixle, text 94503 to 888777.

Stay safe and wishing you a prosperous New Year!

Retirement of Firefighter Mark Cia
December 14th, we celebrated the last radio call of retiring #AmCanFire Firefighter Mark Cia.
Mark served the AmCan community since 2004.
We will all truly miss his wisdom, passion and dedication to the District, his co-workers and the community.
Enjoy your retirement Mark!

Hands Only CPR Training at American Canyon High School

Also on December 14th, Acting Captain/Paramedic Chad Pilkington and Probationary Firefighter Christopher Heim spent their day at American Canyon High School educating almost 500 members of the Freshman Class (go class of 2026!) on how to perform 'Hands Only CPR' and proper usage of an AED device.

And now it's even easier — but still just as effective — as ever. Hands-only CPR is recommended by the American Heart Association for use in treating adults and can double or even triple the chance of survival. Just keep the beat to 'Staying Alive'.

What is CERT?

By taking and completing the CERT course you will gain the skills and confidence necessary to help yourself, your family, and your community during a disaster.
