AMERICAN CANYON, Calif., June 3, 2022, 11 AM – Over the last several weeks, the American Canyon Police Department (ACPD) has received complaints of large booms possibly associated with illegal fireworks. On Friday June 3, 2022 at approximately 12:30AM, the American Canyon Police Department (ACPD) was dispatched to a report of illegal fireworks possibly being ignited from a drone, in the 400 block of Poppyfield Drive.

ACPD officers checked the area and observed a drone in the air and saw fireworks being ignited from it. Officers followed the drone and it landed in the 600 block of Kilpatrick Street. 55-year-old George Wise of American Canyon was contacted holding the drone and he was detained. Wise admitted to igniting M-80 type explosive devices from the drone. Wise was arrested and issued a misdemeanor citation for dangerous fireworks. The drone had a device attached to it used to ignite explosive devices while in flight; it was seized for evidence.

This incident happened just days after the Old Fire broke out in Napa County, burning over 500 acres. ACPD would like to remind the community that fireworks are illegal in Napa County and in the City of American Canyon.
