City Of American Canyon - City Manager's Update - July 29, 2022

Government and Politics

July 30, 2022

From: City Of American Canyon

Hello,

Did you know American Canyon was incorporated as a City in 1992? I was in high school back in Colorado and remember it well. The top song that year was I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston. The most famous movies that year included: A League of Their Own ("There's no crying in baseball!") and A Few Good Men ("You can't handle the truth!")

Well, we are all a bit older now, but the City is just 30 years young! Not only do WE ? Everyone in AmCan, but EVERYONE ?'s AmCan! To mark the occasion, we will host a 30th Anniversary Celebration Booth at the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce's Meet Me in the Street on Wednesday, August 10. Be sure to stop by, say Hi and pick up a treat! The Chamber will conclude the events series around 8 PM; Mayor Leon Garcia will read a Proclamation for the 30th Anniversary. Then the fun will continue with the last Movie in the Park of the summer in Northampton Park, featuring Disney's "Encanto." Find out why we don't talk about Bruno and invite friends and family to join us. We can't wait to celebrate with you.

Earlier this week, we received the exciting news that the U.S. Department of Commerce announced the award of a $5.5M grant for the Green Island Road Reconstruction and Widening Project. This $18.1M Project will bring much-needed infrastructure improvements to the Green Island Industrial District – including utility underground and roadway reconstruction. The utility undergrounding phase will begin in Fall 2022 and last up to 12 months. After that, the roadway reconstruction will begin in Fall 2023 and should also take about 1-year to complete. Click here to find out more about other upcoming Capital Improvement Projects.

Lastly, we hope to see you all for National Night out on August 2, 2022, from 6 PM to 8 PM. National Night Out is an opportunity for neighborhoods and police to unite and create connections that make our communities safer. We have several public parties this year listed on our website. If you see a party going on in your neighborhood, go out and meet your neighbors. American Canyon Fire Protection District staff, American Canyon Police staff, City staff, and City Council members will be making rounds. We're all looking forward to seeing you!

Take care,

Jason B. Holley
City Manager

Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program Available

The new federal Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) provides financial assistance to low-income Californians to help manage their residential water utility costs. Established by Congress in December 2020, this federally funded program helps low-income households pay down their outstanding residential water or wastewater bills. California has been allocated $116 million in one-time funding to provide LIHWAP assistance.

The Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) is the designated administering agency for LIHWAP in California. Through LIHWAP, CSD works with a network of community-based local service providers to help low-income households pay down their outstanding residential water and wastewater utility bills.
