City Of American Canyon City Manager's Update - July 15, 2022

Government and Politics

July 18, 2022

From: City Of American Canyon

Hello,

Summer is in full swing!  The Phillip West Aquatics Center is the perfect place to cool off – check out our website to learn more about hours of operations and daily activities.

We are continuing our water conservation efforts and as a community, we can greatly impact the drought and its effects on our city. There are many ways to conserve water including installing high-efficiency toilets as well as other high-efficiency water appliances. Check out our toilet rebate program to save money while installing your high-efficiency toilet. You can also take advantage of our Recycled Water delivery and self-serve programs. You can find more information on our Recycled Water program to find what will best support your conservation efforts on our website. Also, take advantage of our Water Portal tool to show when you are using water and how to effectively conserve within your household.

This week, the City was asked how do we monitor our own water usage? We track all of our City water usage using our advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). City staff reports this data during the City Council meeting every month the City is in a drought via the Water Supply and Demand update. Currently data reflects that total potable water consumption has reduced by 8% for the City of American Canyon Year to Date 2022 as compared to Year 2021. To stay updated on our City’s water usage and see enhancements coming soon to the Water Portal tool, tune into the next City Council meeting on July 19, 2022 at 6:30 PM.

This year, we will be holding an election on November 8, 2022, for two (2) positions on our City Council. The filing period is open from now until August 12, 2022. For those who are interested in applying, you will need to pick up a Candidate’s Nomination Packet by appointment only from the Office of the City Clerk. Appointments will start becoming available on July 18, 2022. To schedule an appointment, contact our City Clerk office at (707)-647-5337 or email [email protected]. Visit our General Municipal Election webpage for more information.

Lastly, I want to thank our community and community sponsors who celebrated 4th of July with us. It was an amazing celebration that captured what our community can do when we come together. Thank you to the Parks and Recreation Department for organizing such a fun event. We have more community events coming up so stay tuned to our Community Calendar for more community events!

Take care,

Jason B. Holley

National Night Out 2022

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 6-8 PM, communities across the country will celebrate National Night Out. Here in American Canyon, there are block parties throughout town hosted by residents for their neighborhoods. The parties will be listed on CityofAmericanCanyon.org/NNO by July 30th. Although we don't list the private locations, if you see one in your neighborhood - you're welcome to join them!

Get to know your neighbors and enjoy the spirit of camaraderie that neighborhood relationships create. City Council, staff, fire and police personnel, and of course, Lobo will be stopping in at the parties to say Hi and bring goodies.

Are you interested in hosting a block party? Fill out our Block Party Interest Form to be added to the list.

PG&E Bill Assistance

Thousands of income-eligible customers in the Bay Area, including Napa County, could save 18% on their monthly electric bill by enrolling in Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) Program. The FERA program gives discounts on electricity bills to income-qualified households of three or more individuals, but thousands of eligible customers have not yet signed up for the program, and are missing out on significant savings. Some may overlook FERA thinking it only applies to families, or that income qualifications are the same as a similar monthly energy discount program; California Alternate Rates for Energy Program (CARE). In fact, any income qualified household that does not qualify for CARE may be eligible for FERA as it has higher income guidelines.

Customers who apply for CARE and don’t qualify are automatically evaluated for FERA. Customers cannot be enrolled in both programs. CARE offers a higher monthly discount of 20 percent or more on both gas and electricity.

FERA applications can be found online or visit a local community agency located throughout PG&E’s service area to pick up a paper application. Applying can be easy and only takes about five minutes. Eligible customers begin receiving the FERA program discount in the next billing cycle once the application is approved. Customers who meet income requirements for FERA and CARE may also qualify for the Energy Savings Assistance Program offering free energy-saving improvements to maximize energy efficiency in the home. With recent changes to the federal income guidelines, even more customers are eligible. For more financial assistance program support visit pge.com/billhelp
