50th Anniversary Message from Our Co-Directors:

It’s hard to believe that fifty years have gone by since a bunch of film lovers gathered in a small dance studio to watch a movie projected on a bed sheet. At the time, no one even knew if anyone would show up, or if the screenings would continue for more than a few weeks. However, right from the very first night, people started showing up, drawn by the opportunity to see and talk about great movies in a welcoming atmosphere.

While the Cinema Arts Centre has evolved over the years to meet the needs of an ever-changing world, that basic concept has remained unchanged. We remain dedicated to bringing people together in a friendly space to watch and discuss brilliant movies that range from classy to trashy, challenging to silly, sweet to scary, new to classic, controversial to universally beloved, and thought-provoking to entertaining.

Looking back over the past fifty years, and forward into the future, our prevailing emotion is gratitude. We feel incredibly lucky for having the opportunity to share so many fantastic movies with our audience, thankful for the many amazing days and nights, deeply appreciative of our hard-working staff, and most of all, blessed by the incredible friendship and support of our community. Our audience is the main reason that the Cinema Arts Centre has thrived over these many years. People often approach us with kind words thanking us for the program they’ve just experienced, but it’s we who need to say “thank you!”

Time to mingle & celebrate at Crossing Party Lines - Long Island Holiday Party!

BYO ideas, thoughts, dreams, hopes & aspirations for how you want to grow our community. DO NOT bring your own beer, PLEASE BUY beer in the café and help support the cinema! Together we will celebrate our first year together and plan our way forward.

It has been almost a year since we started coming together for conversations, SAY WHAT!!! We engaged in 10 respectful discussions with Long Islanders participating from all across the political spectrum. The attendance (+ waitlists) on our meetups show we have a vibrant and growing chapter. Many of you have reached out to me with topic suggestions for upcoming months and some with new ideas of things we can do together as a group that include potential book / podcast clubs, film clubs, game nights, blog posts, social media campaigns, video series etc. So, for our December meetup, instead of a specific topic, we will host a freeform discussion about where our CPL-Long Island members want to take this forum in 2024.

This is a great time to bring your family & friends, especially those from across party lines, to give them a taste of our camaraderie and how we are helping rebuild a culture in which all views are welcomed, appreciated, and heard. For this event, we will expand our participant allowance and also bring hand-held mics so people can hear each other clearly.

We would love to hear your thoughts on our social media pages. Don't miss topic announcements, updates, news! Follow us on:
