Welcome back to Cadence. We have many exciting updates.

On October 28, we held Soundscape, our annual gala. In addition to the evening of fun and dancing, it was a wonderful opportunity to raise funds to support our education and community outreach programs. Photos from the bash are available here

During Soundscape, we made a special announcement. We’re going on tour!

In March 2024, we embark on the Sinfonietta Homecoming Tour. We’re continuing Maestro Paul Freeman’s legacy by celebrating the institutions that form the bedrock of equity in academia, Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Watch our announcement video below.

A special thanks to Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto for putting on a dynamic performance for our second concert, DEPTH. Along with musicians from Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center playing Bomba music during intermission and after the concert, it was an unforgettable evening of Latin American art.

CS IN THE NEWS

London’s Gramophone included Chicago Sinfonietta in its monthly guide to North American ensembles

“From its very first concert on October 11, 1987, the Chicago Sinfonietta was different. A Black conductor/founder Paul Freeman, led the ensemble. A Black Soloist, soprano Wilhelmenia Fernandez was the Marquee attraction. And a mix of Black, Latino and white musicians formed an orchestra aggregate unlike anything yet seen or heard in Chicago---or in any other major American city to that date”—wrote Howard Reich in the October 2023 issue of Gramophone.

CS President and CEO Blake-Anthony Chicago joined a panel discussion at Chamber Music America’s June 2023 Chamberfest event. A sample of the discussion was printed in the Fall 2023 issue of Chamber Music. The group discussed the classical music industry’s regard for excellence and explored ways to better drive equity in the art form. Read the interview.

Additionally, the media praised our DEPTH concert with Guest Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto. Read Daily Herald’s coverage here.

Former Freeman Fellow Antoine Clark guest conducts the Walla Walla Symphony Dec 12, 2023  in Symphony Series: An Unforgettable Journey, an aural expedition of colorful soundscapes featuring guest soloist pianist Terrence Wilson in Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor.
