The Charleston Gospel Choir is pleased to partner with Volvo Cars to present a performance of gospel and spiritual music to honor and commemorate Black History Month on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Swedish brand’s manufacturing plant near Charleston, SC.

The Choir will be joined by Volvo Cars’ own choir singers at the plant in a private performance for Volvo Cars team members at 10 a.m., followed by a 7 p.m. public performance at Volvo Car University, 270 Three Point Drive in Ridgeville, SC.

Conducted by Associate Director Jennifer Ancrum, the all-volunteer Charleston Gospel Choir will perform an assortment of gospel gems showcasing the energy and joy of the Charleston region. Now in its 26th year the Choir was launched by native South Carolinian Lee Pringle who grew up in Pringletown not far from where the Volvo Cars plant sits.

Since its inception in 1998, the Choir celebrates and performs gospel, spirituals, and sacred music events throughout the Southeast with numerous international engagements including Paris, London, Rome, Prague and Ghana, West Africa.

“Our mission at the Charleston plant is to not only build quality cars, but also build community so that everyone thrives,” said David Stenstrom, Volvo Cars’ Vice President of Manufacturing in the USA and Canada. “With this engagement we invite the community into our world through the common language of music.”

“In my role as a community innovator this engagement is a highlight for me as a unique public/private partnership. Bringing our dedicated group of volunteers to a performance stage with members of the Volvo Cars team and on the campus of an international business icon here in South Carolina is an honor, and we look forward to sharing the gift of music,” added Lee Pringle, Founder and Producer, the Charleston Gospel Choir.
