Supporting Arts in the Classroom

Last week, teaching artist FELTasticFashion was at Roebuck Elementary for a Muse Machine Artist Residency! Through the week-long residency, she provided hands-on creative learning using the process of natural felting including the science of wool, history, transformation, and practical skills using arts integration techniques through SC education standards.

With partial support from the SC Arts Commission, Milliken, and Duke Energy, Chapman Cultural Center sponsors one-week professional artist residencies that provide in-depth student learning opportunities tied to both arts and academic subjects. Teaching artists and classroom teachers work together to develop lesson plans that involve students in hands-on activities, as well as post-residency assessments of the impact on student learning. Residencies involve a range of art forms including performing arts, visual arts, creative writing, and more!
