Burnham Park Association's 34th Arbor Day

Sports and Recreation

June 22, 2022

June 18, 2022 marked Burnham Park Association’s 34th Arbor Day tree planting

On Saturday, June 18, 2022, members of the Burnham Park Association (BPA) Board of Trustees gathered to commemorate its 34th consecutive year of planting trees in Burnham Park. The Association donated two native species, swamp white oaks to enhance the park grounds near the basketball and baseball areas of the park.

The Burnham Park Association is poised to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2023. In continuous existence since 1948, BPA is a neighborhood civic organization dedicated to preservation of open spaces, environmental stewardship and the beautification/restoration of our area, including Burnham Park (in keeping with the Burnham family’s visionary deed gifting the park to Morristown in 1911).

Through its past 34 annual Arbor Day celebrations, the Association has installed the over 3,500 plantings in the park, an effort that received international recognition as one of only five organizations in the world  (and the only grassroots organization), winning the 2005 International Project and Program Award from the National Arbor Foundation.

In coming years, we look forward to continuing that tradition of stewardship and to work with the Town of Morristown as it develops its Master Plan for the Park.
