Brookfield Library Newsletter - September 2022

Schools and Libraries

September 1, 2022

From: Brookfield Library

Dear Friends,

Happy Library Card Sign-Up Month!  Your library card gives you access to all of our incredible resources such as e-books and e-audiobooks, databases, museum passes, STEAM kits, early literacy backpacks, and even WiFi hotspots.  Not to mention a large selection of books and DVDs for all ages!  Did you know you can even use your Brookfield library card at any library in the state of Connecticut?

This September marks a huge leap forward for The Brookfield Library.  We will be joining the over 100 other libraries in the state to go fine free!  More information will be forthcoming so be sure to keep an eye on our website and social media feeds to learn how we are reducing barriers to access.

September also marks the return of our full slate of pre-pandemic storytimes!  Fun & Friends, Storytime Adventures, and Shake, Rattle, and Read will be offered this fall.

Mark your calendars!  The Friends of the Brookfield Library will be hosting a Book Sale and Vendor Fair on Saturday, September 24.  Get a jump start on your holiday shopping while supporting the Friends and local artisans.

Happy reading!

Tracey L. Wehking
Library Director

Come visit us and find out what your library card will give you access to! Great books and materials, of course, but also technology, programs, and more!

Join The Friends of The Brookfield Library!

Love the Library? So much of what we do, and the programs we offer, are a result of this wonderful organization. The Friends is a group that does a lot for the Library with very few hands. With proceeds from its book sales and membership drive, The Friends are responsible for funding the Teen and Children's Summer Reading Programs, museum passes, Ancestry.com, and so much more. Whether you have a few hours a week to sort books, or a few hours a year to help at a book sale, we would love to meet you! Being part of The Friends is an easy way to give back to the community. Please email us at [email protected] for more information. We welcome new faces and new ideas! Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 6, at 6:30 pm in the Library's Community Room. Join us!

The Brookfield Library Art Gallery

The Brookfield Library Art Gallery presents A Few of My Favorite Things, an exhibition of fine art by Lorraine Ryan on view from September 1 to September 30. Ryan’s painting is extraordinarily photographic, as she uses watercolor and acrylic to meticulously capture realistic depictions of complex still lifes and scenery.

The public is invited to meet the artist on Saturday, September 17 from 2–4 pm in The Brookfield Library Art Gallery. A virtual version of the exhibition will be available on The Brookfield Library’s website, www.brookfieldlibrary.org/art-gallery, starting September 1.

The Brookfield Library Art Gallery is located in the Library's Community Room and is open during the Library’s regular operating hours. Please check in at the Circulation Desk before entering the Gallery.

For more information about the exhibition, please contact Head of Adult Services Librarian Sarah-Ruth Tasko at (203) 775-6241 ext. 126 or [email protected]
