January Sermon Series: Being Human

God’s design of things is best, and God’s Word provides perfect clarity on the way things should be. But, it can be easy to lose sight of what God intends because of the endless number of voices and perspectives the world throws at us each and every day – and knowing which ones are right and which ones are dangerous is vitally important.

This January, we will engage with several hot topics that are a part of the conversation we’re having both in our culture and in the church. Please join us as we seek to learn about God’s wonderful design for humanity!

End-of-Year Giving

The end of the year is approaching quickly. If you want to make any gifts to claim as a charitable contribution in 2023, please note the following:
Donors must deliver checks on or by December 31 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2023. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2024 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2023, even if the check is predated to 2023 or was written in 2023. However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked by December 31, 2023 will be deductible in 2023 though they are not received by the church until 2024. Email us with questions, or visit our webpage for information or to give online.

Rise Up Winter Retreat

It's time for the Rise Up Winter Retreat! Open to middle and high school students, this weekend will be one to remember. From February 9-11 we will be heading up to Miracle Camp in Lawton, MI (25281 80th Ave, Lawton, MI 49065) for a weekend focused on our Verge values. This retreat will be filled with group activities like a tubing hill and broom ball, as well as many opportunities to hang out with your friends. Between teaching sessions, worship, awesome food, and free time at Miracle Camp's great facilities, you will have an amazing time. Middle school and high school students will be on the same campground but will participate in separate programming while joining together for teaching sessions and meals. Transportation is provided. We'll leave from the Crown Point Campus on Friday (2/9) at 4:30pm and return to the Crown Point Campus on Sunday (2/11) between 2pm and 3pm. Cost is $169 per student. Payments toward Rise Up are non-refundable.

Elder Candidates

The lead elders are pleased to put forward the following candidates for lead elder and campus elder roles. Our church constitution calls for a 30-day period of public consideration. If you are aware of any disqualifying matter in these men’s lives, please contact them directly. If the matter remains unresolved, you may contact us at [email protected].

Chad Clark, Lead Elder Candidate

I have been married for 30 years to my lovely wife, Maria. We have three grown sons and one daughter-in-law. I began attending Bethel in 2006 and quickly got involved with missions and then began serving as a deacon in 2008. I first joined the elder team in 2010 and have served faithfully in that capacity since, with a year off in 2017. In addition to serving as an elder, I have been leading a small group during the majority of my time at the church. I currently work at DHL freight as Vice President of Operations, and in my personal time I enjoy road biking and traveling to fun places with my wife. Finally, I have been privileged to visit and work with our ministry partners around the world – including with teams in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Lebanon.

Jack Huls, Crown Point Campus Elder Candidate

I am so thankful for Jesus and his work on the cross to save a guy like me. I'm also thankful for my beautiful wife, Kathryn, of 34 years who has truly been an example of Christ in my life. We have three adult sons who are each married and we count ourselves blessed to have three wonderful daughters-in-law who love Jesus and our sons. We enjoy serving as small group leaders. The things I find life-giving are generally found on or near the water or in my garage near a power tool. I enjoy creating, restoring, and refinishing but have to admit God does a much better job than I do.
