Beaches Museum and History Park Happenings for January 2024

Arts and Entertainment

January 9, 2024

From: Beaches Museum and History Park

A Note from the Director

Dear Friends:

Happy New Year! Yes, we are more than a week in to 2024, but I feel like we can wish it for the same amount of time it takes us to stop writing 2023 on things!

We are geared up for a great start to the year with a wonderful line up of exhibits and programs. And, now is the perfect time to get involved as an attendee, supporter, member, or even a volunteer!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Museum and are part of everything that we do. If you'd like to get involved, sign up for our volunteer orientation to come learn about all of the opportunities that we have here!

We are all getting hungry around here as recipes and food-related stories are pouring in for the "Beaches Bite by Bite" exhibit and the relaunch of our cookbook! Recipes from the Homestead, VooSwar, and more will join Le Chateau, Stricklands, and even recipes from your kitchen in this new cookbook. We can't wait for you to see it.

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you at the Museum!

Sincerely,

Chris Hoffman
Executive Director

Current Exhibit: "Golden Hour Dwelling" by Rebecca Lemmon

In a continued celebration of local artists, Beaches Museum is proud to present the work of Rebecca Lemmon.

About the Artist: Discover the art of Rebecca Lemmon, a local painter whose work celebrates "the faithful simplicity of daily life." A graduate of Flagler College, Rebecca taught painting and drawing for 10 years at Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Her latest work highlights how “ordinary days have their own glory," celebrating the light-dappled beauty of domestic and botanical scenes. Lemmon’s immersive artistry invites the viewer to experience how the simple evokes the sublime.

"Golden Hour Dwelling" is on display in the Museum's lobby and Dickinson Gallery.

Special thanks to the GFWC Jacksonville Beaches Woman's Club for making this exhibit possible.

Beaches Bite By Bite

Back by popular demand, the Beaches Area Historical Society Cookbook will be returning in the spring! We KNOW many of you have this book floating around your kitchen and we have really enjoyed hearing the stories behind so many of the recipes!

NOW is your chance to be included in the cookbook! Do you have a favorite recipe to share? A meal that reminds you of home? A favorite dish and a local restaurant! Let us know!

Please submit a maximum of 3 of your favorite family recipes to represent you in the Beaches Museum Community Cookbook and a committee will choose the recipes for each section. If your recipe has an accompanying story please add it at the end in the Comments/Story section. Thank you for contributing to our cookbook, only through community support will it be a success.

Leave Your Mark! Buy a Brick!

Show your Beaches Museum pride, memorialize a loved one, or celebrate something special by having your message displayed on a commemorative brick to be installed inside our Train Enclosure.

Engraved on your brick could be a name, a message, a business, or something else entirely! Whatever you decide, your brick will serve as a visible reminder of your commitment to the Museum and the Beaches area.

Every brick has a story. Write yours and make your mark as a part of the Beaches Museum. History is in the making, and this is your chance to memorialize the things that matter most to you. Your brick will be a place where the past meets the future in a perfectly preserved moment as a permanent part of Beaches history.

The 4”x 8”x 2 ¼” bricks are engraved using state-of-the-art laser technology and they are all guaranteed for life.
