New to the Galleries

Six new exhibitions will be on view this spring, showcasing the distinct perspectives of five artists from the Baltimore and Mid-Atlantic region, a collective of French artists from the early 20th century, and artists from across global cultures who have worked for thousands of years. Here's a look at what's to come:

Martha Jackson Jarvis: What the Trees Have Seen is a tour de force of abstract painting inspired by the artist's research into her great-great-great-great grandfather’s service as a free Black militiaman in the American Revolutionary War. Opening May 7.

Contemporary ceramicist Michelle Erickson draws on historic ceramic techniques to create works that expose the persistence of racism and exploitation in post-colonial countries. See her work alongside historic ceramics from the BMA’s collection. Recasting Colonialism: Michelle Erickson Ceramics opens May 7.
