Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors
Wednesday, September 27 at 6:30 pm on Zoom

In this virtual Zoom program, join Tory Stephens of Grist magazine, an independent non-profit media organization focused on the climate crisis. Learn about Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors, a storytelling initiative that calls for fiction writers to envision the next 180 years of equitable climate progress, imagining intersectional worlds of abundance, adaptation, reform, and hope. Over the course of three years the project has encouraged 3,000 plus writers from 91 countries to submit stories. Please visit our website to access the Zoom link.

Art Exhibit: Barbara Levine
On display at BFL through October 18

Stop by to view Barbara Levine's art show "Here and There," which will be on display at Bacon Free Library through October 18. Barbara paints in oils and in gouache and learned to paint primarily “en plein air” in a New England impressionist tradition, which has been a wonderful adventure for her. Barbara will be donating 10% of any sales to the library.

Statewide Read-In: Let Freedom Read!
Tuesday, October 3, 3:00 to 6:00 pm

Libraries across the Commonwealth are celebrating the freedom to read with a Statewide Read-In. Come together on the BFL lawn and read anything you want! All ages – kids and adults – are welcome. Stop by anytime between 3:00 and 6:00pm and enjoy apple cider and doughnuts while you read. This program will take place outdoors, weather permitting. Bring a blanket or chair for sitting on the grass. Supported by the Joint Task Force for Intellectual Freedom with members from the Massachusetts Library Association, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Massachusetts Library System, and the Massachusetts School Library Association.

Virtual: Mass Audubon's The Nature of Fall with Patti Steinman
Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 pm on Zoom

Why do leaves change color and fall off their trees? What animals are rustling through and what are they doing? This online program will introduce the seasonal dynamics of the nature of Massachusetts in fall, the plants and animals that experience it, and ideas for observing and supporting nature near home. Patti Steinman is the Senior Teacher/Naturalist at Arcadia and the Connecticut River Valley Wildlife Sanctuaries. Patti has worked at Mass Audubon for over 30 years, overseeing and teaching environmental education programs for all ages, and has an MS from Antioch New England in Environmental Studies. Jammin With You
Friday, October 6 at 10:30 am

Be prepared to laugh, dance, sing, and jam your way through 30 minutes of non-stop family fun on the library lawn! This performance is geared toward kids ages 1–7, but fun for the whole family. If the weather is wet or below 55 degrees, we’ll move indoors and space will be available on a first come, first served basis. Bring your own simple instruments if you can! Read to a Dog
Saturday, October 7, 10:00 to 11:15 am

registration required

Build confidence and practice your reading skills by reading out loud to a registered therapy dog! Children ages 5 and up can sign up for a 15 minute reading session with Sophie, a gentle golden retriever who loves belly rubs, stories, and cuddles. Registration is required and opens one month before the program. Please visit our website to sign up for a time slot; please register for each child attending.

Puppet Story Time
Friday, October 13 at 10:30 am

Through Me To You Puppetry invites you to join Newton and the gang for some story time fun! Newton and his puppet friends take turns reading stories and singing songs with the kids. At the end of the show, the kids are invited to say hi to Newton and even play with some of the puppets during a hands-on free play session. All ages welcome. If the weather is 55 degrees or warmer, the program will be held outdoors behind the library, so bring a blanket or chair for sitting on the grass. If it’s rainy or under 55 degrees, we’ll meet indoors and space will be available on a first come, first served basis.
