This Week at the Auburn Chamber

Hello Friends,

It's November. There's no denying that the holidays are coming and although I am the last person to rush forward to the holiday season, I still find myself thinking about it. My work days are spent in the retail setting, so if I wasn't considering the holidays at all, my business partner might wonder if I'd chosen the right line of work. So, here I am, thinking about all of the holidays that we are about to celebrate. As part of this consideration my overriding thought is that I hope we all choose to support our local businesses first. I know we are all faced with decisions about how and where to spend our hard-earned money. We also have very full and busy lives and finding time to shop can certainly be a challenge. The pull of online shopping is seductive. My ask is this: try to support local, in as many ways as possible. Local businesses are working hard to be open longer to serve the needs of our community. Give 'em a shot! Remember that it's these very local businesses who support all of our fundraising efforts in town. They support youth sports, theater, the hospital, and those who are less fortunate. Our businesses support our way of life here in Auburn, so let's support them.

In thinking about the holidays, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Festival of Lights Parade. Our spectacular parade will once again be gracing the streets of Auburn on Saturday November 2nd at 5:30 pm. Registration is open, if you'd like to enter the parade you may sign up on the website. We're also looking for volunteers to help on the day of the parade, along the route. You'd get to be official and watch the parade at the same time! Contact the Chamber office if you're interested.

Whatever your holiday plans are, I encourage you to remember that it's not the things in our lives that make it worthwhile, it's the people. Happy November!
