Leadership Institute of South Puget Sound Class of 2023

Apply or send an emerging leader!

The Leadership Institute of South Puget Sound is an opportunity for current and emerging leaders to engage with the business community and elected officials while developing leadership skills, linking with a mentor, and interacting with exemplary leaders

The program explores leadership development, assesses leadership strengths and weaknesses, provides opportunities to learn from local leaders who contribute to the vitality of our community, and offers visits to local organizations at the heart of our regional business community.

Why do your employees need leadership training?

Managers who are trained to become effective leaders can increase the overall productivity of your workforce. Good leaders can better provide instruction to staff, assess problems, provide creative solutions and manage challenges.

Why is investing in leadership important?

Valuable outcomes such as increasing revenue, changing culture, or leading transformation start with leaders who have the skills to take the right actions. Companies that invest in their leaders can expect to become more competitive, better able to attract and retain talent, and more likely to have long-term success.

McChord Honorary Commander, Tim Mensonides!

Airport Manager, Tim Mensonides, was honored this week as he became one of the McChord Air Force Base Honorary Commanders. This is a two-year term.

The Honorary Commander Program is an Air Force Program in which leaders within the local community pair with military commanders and serve alongside them as “honorary” commanders.

The purpose is twofold: first, to educate key community leaders about the Air Force mission and foster a supportive relationship with the local community. Second, to increase military involvement in civic endeavors and help members of the local community feel connected to Team McChord.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Tim and Auburn Airport!

Community groups: apply for Alan M. Painter grants by Dec. 2

The Alan M. Painter grants to fund community projects that allow residents of unincorporated King County to participate in, and be more connected to, their communities.

Funded projects must show how they are accessible to all residents regardless of race, income, or language spoken. The funds may not be used for political activities.

A total of $90,000 will be reimbursed for projects in 2023, in individual grants of less than $5,000 per project. Funding for projects will begin in March 2023.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, December 2.

Find details about this year’s program and how to apply on the Local Services website. Information and applications are available in English and Spanish (and in other languages and formats on request).

October is Flood Awareness Month

With anticipated fall rains come possible flooding. Take steps this fall to ensure you’re ready for heavy rain:

Check that gutters and storm drains are free of debris. Avoid driving on flooded roadways.

If you live in a floodplain, ensure that you have flood insurance. Learn more at: kingcounty.gov/PrepareForFlooding

October is a good time for other preparedness activities, too.

Protect your online safety by learning about cybersecurity on King County's cyberterrorism website

Join the world’s largest earthquake drill on Oct 20 at 10:20 a.m. Learn how and register at ShakeOut.org/washington.

Fall weather may be welcome after our hot, sometimes smoky summer, but cooler, wetter days can also herald road closures and inclement weather events like floods or slides. To get ready, you can sign up for King County's email or text road alerts and visit the county's Roads and Flooding website to learn which roads tend to flood first and pick up safety tips.
