Art Speaks Brings Original Poetry and Plays to Creative 360

May 31, 2022, Midland, MI. – In conjunction with the Midland Art Fair weekend, the 2nd Annual Art Speaks Poetry & Playwriting Festival takes the spotlight on the Creative 360 Gallery stage this Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4th.  The event features the debut of 28 original poems and plays, including 10 minute plays, one act plays, and a full length play.

More than 40 piece were submitted to Creative 360 in May of this year and were adjudicated by published poets, playwrights and theatre professionals. Creative 360 recruited directors from the Great Lakes Bay Region to direct staged readings of several of the play submissions, including the winning works.

“Art Speaks began in 2021 to support the voices of Michigan writers.  What is unique about this festival is that the performances allow the poets and playwrights to see a director’s interpretation of their work,” said Art Speaks creator Laura Brigham. “The event is right in line with Creative 360’s mission to immerse everyone in the creative process – authors, directors, actors and the audience.”

This year’s performances are Friday, June 3 with Ten Minute Plays beginning at 5 pm and Saturday June 4 with One Act Plays at 2 pm, the winning Full Length Play at 6 pm, and Poetry and Awards at 8 pm. Each director will announce information regarding strong language and themes prior to the piece.

Admission to the event is free and on Friday evening, Gladys, the Proper Taco truck, will be in the Creative 360 parking lot for guests to purchase dinner during the show.  All Art Speaks events are BYOB and snacks.
