Beginning July 30th, the Town of Apex will provide a new, free way to 'reach the peak' through the GoApex Route 1 bus service.

GoApex Route 1 is the town's first local bus service, and will follow a fixed route, running hourly from 6 am to 10 pm, Monday through Saturday, except certain holidays. Bus stop locations include: Historic Downtown Apex, Apex Town Hall, Community Center, and Senior Center, the Williams Street/NC 55 commercial corridor, Beaver Creek Commons, Beaver Creek Crossings, Publix Pointe, Walmart, and more.

"GoApex will provide a needed service for our community, as a free and easy way to get around Apex," said Mayor Jacques Gilbert. "I'm proud of the dedication our staff showed to bringing our first-ever transit project to fruition, and I look forward to building on this service!"

To find real-time information about the route, riders can download the TransLoc app on their phone (GoApex is found under the GoCary tab and the route is visible only during active service), text GoLive and the bus stop ID to 41411, or call the Regional Transit Information Center at 919-495-RIDE (7433).

The demand for local bus service was identified in both the Town's long-range plan update, Advance Apex (2019), and the Apex Circulator study (2020). GoApex is the result of several years of planning and coordination by Town staff and officials, volunteers, and regional partners.

GoApex service is operated through a service agreement with GoCary, and is partially funded through the Wake Transit Community Funding Area program, which provides up to a 50% match to public transit projects in Wake County localities that do not already have their own local transit service.

"Public transportation provides a critical service that connects our residents and visitors to employment centers, housing opportunities, and amenities that improve one's quality of life.  We appreciate all of our partners who helped bring this service to the town."

Along with GoApex Route 1, the Town will also launch GoApex Door to Door, a complementary paratransit service for those with a disability that prevents them from riding the fixed route service. Interested riders of GoApex Door to Door will need to complete an application, but once accepted, can call to reserve trips on a shared-ride vehicle that will take them to and from anywhere within a ¾-mile of the fixed route. This service is operated through a service agreement with GoWake Access.
