For the artistically inclined, participate in our ninth annual Summer Art Show and submit original works for a virtual showing. Connect and discuss The Girl in His Shadow with fellow readers during the Big Library Read. Discover the fun and beauty of marine creatures with stories from the people that care for them in our Ocean Tales series.
Join the Discussion
The Big Library Read is back! From July 13-27, booklovers can dive into the suspenseful USA Today bestseller The Girl in His Shadow as an eBook or eAudiobook with no waitlists or holds by downloading the Libby app or visiting our OverDrive site.
Read the book and join the virtual discussion on Saturday, July 31 at 2 p.m. on Zoom. You can also join the discussion on social media with #BigLibraryRead and tag the library with @alachualibrary!
Discover Ocean Creatures
Each week this summer we will spotlight a different sea creature and talk to their caretakers! You won't believe the fun we will have learning, reading, and exploring the ocean.
Tune in to Ocean Tales on Facebook or Zoom at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays to share tales and literacy activities with marine animal friends from local zoos, museums, and aquariums.
Partners include Santa Fe Zoo, Marineland, the Sea Turtle Conservancy, UF Whitney Labs, Alachua Audubon Society, Florida Museum of Natural History, Save the Manatee Club, and the Volusia Marine Science Center.
Share Your Art
Calling all adult artists! Patrons are invited to submit their original artwork to our ninth annual Summer Art Show starting July 1 through July 30. Participants can submit up to three works each by email with a completed entry form for each piece.
A virtual showing of all submitted artwork will take place to kick off the art show during the first week of August 2022. Artwork will also be displayed on the library's website and its social media sites, including Facebook, Flickr, and Instagram.
