Winter storms in North and Central Alabama have negatively impacted blood donations, and LifeSouth is asking blood donors in unaffected areas to help.

Due to the severe freeze, snow and unsafe travel conditions, blood drives in North and Central Alabama were canceled and blood centers closed Monday and today, causing a severe drop in blood donations. This hits at a time when blood supplies are already low and LifeSouth is in emergency need for all blood types.  Donors are needed now to maintain our community’s blood supply and help those in affected areas.

LifeSouth serves Alabama hospitals. Donating ensures blood will be available to help those who may need a blood transfusion during and after the storm. All blood types are needed.

If you do not know your blood type or have never donated, now is a great time. All blood donors receive a $20 e-gift card and platelet and double red cell donors receive a $40 e-gift card, along with a mini-physical and refreshments.

LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood center serving hospitals in Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. To find a blood drive close to you or to learn more about the donation process, call LifeSouth’s toll-free number, 1-888-795-2707 or visit www.lifesouth.org.
