SMF is one of the region’s leading arts presenters, producing an internationally acclaimed cross-genre music festival, education programs for local schoolchildren and budding musicians in jazz and acoustic music, a weekly public radio series and off-season concert events.

Part of the new generation of contemporary folk musicians, Lena Jonsson is one of Scandinavia’s most influential fiddlers. Her unique style combines a deep knowledge of traditional Swedish folk music and the youthful sounds of rock, pop, jazz, American old-time and bluegrass. Lena Jonsson is joined by Kristofer Sundström and Ian Carr.

Referred to as the “songbird of Wassolou,” Malian superstar Oumou Sangaré is known worldwide for her vibrant and powerful music. A Grammy Award winner, Sangaré’s sound spans traditional to contemporary, with distinctive vocals that have propelled her onto the international stage. Don’t miss this Savannah Music Festival debut on opening night!

5:00 pm - 7:10 pm: Lena Jonsson Trio/ Kieran Kane and Rayna Gellert

Part of the new generation of contemporary folk musicians, Lena Jonsson is one of Scandinavia’s most influential fiddlers. Her unique style combines a deep knowledge of traditional Swedish folk music and the youthful sounds of rock, pop, jazz, American old-time and bluegrass. Lena Jonsson is joined by Kristofer Sundström and Ian Carr.

Kieran Kane and Rayna Gellert have collaborated on multiple acclaimed solo and duo projects since 2016. Kane’s songs have been performed and recorded by a who’s who of Americana artists, and Rayna Gellert’s solo work combines her love of rural stringband music with heartfelt gospel songs and old ballads. Sparse and skillful arrangements of guitar, fiddle and banjo accompany their rich vocal harmonies in a sound that embodies “an understated and unpretentious virtuosity” and “exudes a seductive magic” (No Depression).

SMF favorites David Finckel and Wu Han return with a program entitled Three Cultures. Recipients of Musical America‘s “Musicians of the Year” award, David Finckel and Wu Han enjoy a multi-faceted musical life that encompasses performing, recording and artistic direction at the highest levels. Join us on stage at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts for this opening night concert.
