From a poolside cocktail to dancing alongside live music, or enjoying a moment of relaxation with beach yoga, the Memorial Weekend at Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers guests of all ages an opportunity to dig their toes in the sand, and welcome the summer season with a smile.

Schedule:

Birding for Beginners
8:30am – 10am
Are you interested in the intriguing world of birding? Join a Naturalist to learn the basics of birding and discover the natural beauty of Kiawah Island. You will explore various types of habitats to learn which birds are found where and what to look for when identifying each species.

Marsh Kayaking
9am – 11am
If you’re an independent adventurer and like to set your own pace, marsh kayaking gives you the freedom you’re looking for. This tour leads you through the creeks to reveal what curiosities the marsh has to offer and is geared toward those who are looking to get a little exercise.

This trip uses single kayaks. Moderate physical ability required. $65/person. Resort guests and KICA Members: $60/person. All participants 8 – 11 years old: $50/person. Please call the Nature Center for reservations 843.768.6001.

Turtles’ Nest Art Studio: Open Studio
9am – 4pm: Night Heron Park
Join us throughout the month for ceramic bunny painting. Our open studio offers an extensive selection of craft options suitable for families, adults and children. Unleash your imagination as you delve into pottery painting, shark tooth and shell necklace making, wood crafts, canvas painting, and much more.

Prices for each project will vary based on your chosen masterpiece(s). Kiln projects, such as pottery painting, are available for pick up 2-3 days after completion. Shipping is available. No reservations required. For more information, please call our Kiawah Recreation at 843.768.6001.

Wildlife in the Wetlands Bike Tour
11am – 1pm
Join a Kiawah Island Naturalist on a 7-mile bike tour to discover the fascinating wildlife that inhabits Kiawah’s diverse ecosystems. As you enjoy a leisurely bike ride, you’ll gain a better understanding of the salt marsh, sand dunes, beach, maritime forest, and the ponds on our island. This is a must-do!

$40/per participant. Guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and children with training wheels not recommended. Reservations required, please call 843.768.6001. 24-hour cancellation policy.

Family Kayaking
12:30pm – 2:30pm
Bring the family along and experience the unique coastal habitat of the Kiawah River! Led by a professional Naturalist, you and your family can learn all about the beautiful ecology of our tidal estuary from the comfort of a tandem boat. Be sure to look out for dolphins, birds, and even turtles as your Naturalist guides you through your curiosities!

Geared toward adults and older children who can kayak for a full 1.5 to 2 hrs. Participants must be 8 years old or older. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No experience needed. $65/person. Resort guests and KICA Members: $60/person. All participants 8 – 11 years old: $50/person. Please call the Nature Center for reservations 843.768.6001.

Shelling Expedition
2pm – 4pm
South Carolina’s beautiful coastal ecosystem provides a variety of unique and interesting marine mollusks. Accessible only by boat, our Naturalists will escort you to a remote barrier island known for its abundance of shells. Important to our delicate coastline, we encourage photographs and apply shell-collecting limits to help conserve the beach and its inhabitants for future generations.

Multiple parties onboard. Pricing: $75 per adult, $65 per child (ages 3-11) with a trip minimum of $450 (1-6ppl). Private options available by request. Reservations required, please call 843.768.6001. 48-hour cancellation policy.

Games, Games, Games
2pm – 4:3pm: Night Heron Park Stage
Join us at the Night Heron Park Stage to compete in a variety of individual and team games, hosted by DJ Trevor! Get ready to test your knowledge with various trivia questions, compete in a fierce game of balloon stomp, or sit back and enjoy interactive rounds of bingo! We can’t wait to see you all there!

This event is complimentary and no reservation required. A limited amount of picnic table seating is available. Blankets or beach chairs recommended.

Family Craft : Cowboy Hats
3pm – 4pm: Turtles’ Nest Art Studio
Join us and design your very own cowboy hat! Get creative with beads, gems, feathers, and paints for that perfect wild, wild west vibe.

$30/hat. No reservations required.

Loggerhead Grill at The Sanctuary

Kick off the summer with a weekend of fun at Loggerhead Grill! Join us on Thursday evening with live music from Holy City Steel. Friday night is perfect for families with our Dive-In Movie featuring a viewing of The Incredibles. The fun continues on Saturday evening with live music from Chris Dodson! In addition to their full menu, Loggerhead bar will also be serving a specialty cocktail themed just for the Memorial weekend holiday.
