Memorial Day 2024

Memorial Day 2024 will be a federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May each year. It commemorates and honors the men and women who have died while serving in the United States military. It was originally named Decoration Day and became an official holiday in 1971.

Memorial Day 2024 in Tampa, Florida, like in many other places in the U.S., is typically marked with events and activities to honor and remember the fallen soldiers. This includes:

1. Clearwater Honor Fest and Memorial Day Parade which will be held on that Saturday, May 25th in downtown Clearwater, FL.

2. Memorial Services held by churches, military organizations, and community groups to pay tribute to all of the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the military.

3. Parades: Clearwater will a host Memorial Day parade featuring military units, veterans groups, marching bands, and community organizations. This parade will travel through downtown Clearwater along Cleveland Street to N. Oseola Ave. Providing an opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance.

4. Cemetery Visits: Residents of Tampa may visit local cemeteries, such as the Bay Pines VA cemetery, Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell or other veterans’ cemeteries in the area, to honor fallen soldiers by placing flowers, flags, or other remembrances on their graves.

5. Military Tributes: Military installations in the Tampa area, such as MacDill Air Force Base, may hold special ceremonies or events to honor fallen service members and their families.

6. Family Gatherings: Memorial Day weekend is also a time for families and friends to come together for barbecues, picnics, and other outdoor activities, often with a focus on honoring and remembering those who have served in the military.
