Norwalk Health Department

137 East Avenue
203-854-7776

The mission of the Norwalk Health Department is to prevent and control the spread of disease, promote a healthy environment, and protect the quality of life within our changing community.

The Norwalk Health Department provides a variety of services and programs to fulfill its mission. Health Department staff teach children and adults about eating healthy, staying active, and making healthy choices, and we partner with educators, health care providers, social service agencies, and others to make it easier for people to make those healthy choices.

We also inspect restaurants, housing units, salons, and other places for safety and sanitation. We test the beach water during the summer months to make sure it's safe to swim. We provide vaccines to children and adults, including travelers, and we offer testing and counseling for people concerned about sexually transmitted diseases. We investigate disease outbreaks to help the community stay healthy and stop the spread of disease. In addition, we work with police, fire, and other city officials to prepare for emergencies.  We are creating a volunteer program that helps the Health Department help others.  This community-based Emergency Response Team assists with local public health programs and responds to public health emergencies.

The Norwalk Health Department achieved accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) in June 2014, demonstrating that it meets or exceeds national public health standards and commits to continuously improve the quality of the services it delivers.
